Wednesday Rant: Things that Bug Me!
I’m in a mood so I listed a few things that bug me. Some of these might strike a cord with you too:
- Short Cords on Appliances. My age is showing now because I can remember getting much longer cords on my kitchen appliances. As they are now, I have one outlet that they all can work off of unless I use a surge bar protector. And yes, when you have to use extension cords your appliances wear out faster. Hmmm, interesting.
- Cell phones with shorter lives than your renewal contract. I realize we live in a “throw away” society but with all the technological advances, having a two year life span for expensive gadgets is ridiculous. Hubby just informed me that his “replacement” phone he’s had less than a month won’t charge and the dang thing is “military standard.”
- People that park too close to you. A hundred parking spots to choose from and somebody parks right beside you. You parked out in the boonies of the parking lot hoping your car doors don’t get dented. And another car pulls in right beside you. I suppose they might be parking out there because they don’t like those nasty little dings on their cars either. I wish that were true, but I doubt it because this one individual parked beside me before I could get out and she didn’t leave me enough room to even open my door. We were the only two cars in that row of parking spaces. I’m confused.
- Schools and organized teams where “everybody’s a winner.” So what planet are these people on? In the real world there are and always have been winners and losers. Kids need to be taught how to deal with both realities. When you go to a job interview with 300 other qualified applicants, do you all get the job because everyone’s a winner?
- The inventor of game stations. This one keeps coming back like a bad penny. It’s easy to blame fast food for child obesity but having your child and their friends parked in front of a game station for hours on end is a BIG contributing factor. The strongest body parts of kid’s today are their thumbs and now your child can suffer repetitive strain injury from gaming. Years ago, I went out for a walk after dinner and realized there were no kids outside. Growing up there were always kids playing pick-up baseball games, street hockey or jumping rope. The weather wasn’t the problem for the lack of kids outside and then I remembered the dang computer games. I must congratulate Wii for having an exercise component to their games.
- The first person who bought a cell phone for a child along with the marketers of cell phones. My son has a cell for our convenience not for his. I love how cell phones have become such a fashion statement for teens. My son keeps bulldogging for the latest and greatest cell on the market. With both parents being Tauruses he’s not having much luck. He’s had 8 cell phones in 4 years. And his friends have gone through as many or more cells. Kid’s are HARD on technology. I’m shocked for thinking that this was already taken into consideration by cell phone companies. Somebody explain to me why any 14 year old would need an iPhone or a PDA etc.!
I also hate texting! I used to have it but I got tired of the barrage of inane messages interrupting me. “Hey, mom,” “whatcha doing?” “Huh” and on and on. One day my son and his friend were sitting on the sofa rapidly firing off text messages. I asked, “What’s up?” My son said, “we’re texting.” I bantered back, “Must be some interesting conversation going on. Who are you two texting?” He answered, “each other!” Aaah, the wonderful world of technology.
I have more but I’ll leave it for now. Another day, another reason to rant. LOL
P.S How do you like my “nasty bug?” I made him just for this post. Ahaha
